A cleanse that isn’t crazy

by Camille on March 22, 2010

How’s this for insane? One in 20 women would rather give up a limb than be obese, according to a study in the journal Obesity. So it’s pretty much a no-brainer that hordes of rational people want to believe in the power of a detox diet. “These diets are so popular right now, mostly because people think they’re a quick fix for shedding pounds,” says Jennifer Ventrelle, R.D., a nutrition counselor at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

The bad news is, a lot of so-called “detoxing” or “cleansing” plans are weight loss saboteurs at best (they cause your body to eat up calorie-burning muscle tissue and stall your metabolism)–and can actually be downright dangerous if you’re not careful.

Check out my new Women’s Health article to find out why–and to get Ventrelle’s safe, sane low-calorie cleanse, which you can use to kick-start weight loss or simply a healthier lifestyle.

That is sad. Especially because those one in twenty women all, presumably, think giving up a limb is easier and less painful than eating right.

Reminds me of the old joke: “I’d do anything to lose weight! Except diet and exercise.”
