Friday Wine Find

I claim to be an equal opportunity imbiber, but the truth is, I’m much more likely to choose red wine than white. But while in Colorado last week, I decided to take Sara’s advice and branch out, and made a point of having a glass of white most nights. In the process, I stumbled upon a fantastic white that I would definitely seek out again: Twisted Oak Viognier.

This Viognier is white wine, to be sure, but I couldn’t help but be reminded of hard cider–it had the same subtle apple taste, but without the sparkle. It had no hint of the overly-oaky flavor that I usually don’t like to find in, say, Chardonnay. Instead, it was perfectly balanced: crisp, a little fruity, and just the tiniest bit savory. At about $20 a bottle, it’s well-priced (I had a glass for $7).

Speaking of wine, I’ll be checking out Brooklyn Wine Exchange this weekend. It’s the latest wine venue from the team behind my neighborhood favorites, Smith & Vine and Jake Walk. Have you been? Share your thoughts below!

PS Thanks to some lovely coverage from the Atlantic’s truly fantastic food blog and a mention from one of our favorite sites, Food News Journal, we’ve seen an exciting spike in traffic this week. If you’re new, welcome–we’re thrilled you’re here, and would love to hear your suggestions on what you’d like to see covered on the blog.
