Obviously, our goal at SvelteGourmand is to help you make healthy choices. But spending too much time online–even if you’re reading all the nutrition and health information you can get your (virtual) hands on, including this site–can backfire, according to a new Australian study.
Researchers surveyed more than 2,600 people and found that people who spent more than five hours a day online were 2.5 times more likely to be obese than people who didn’t use a computer at all. The crazy thing? Computer addicts who got a lot of exercise were still nearly twice as likely to be overweight or obese compared to non-computer users. The researchers aren’t sure why, but point out that computer addicts are probably more likely to engage in other sedentary behaviors, like watching lots of TV.
Personally, I think it makes zero sense to avoid the computer altogether. But this study is more proof that it never hurts to do everything in moderation.
